Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Partizan Belgrade winger Filip Stevanovic in the next transfer window, it was announced on Saturday.

The Serbia Under-21 international had been linked with several clubs in Europe, including City s Premier League rivals Manchester United.

City did not immediately confirm the deal but a statement on the Serbian club s website said the 18-year-old will soon become part of Pep Guardiola s squad.

The statement said: Partizan are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached on the transfer of Filip Stevanovic to Manchester City, in the winter transfer window in 2021.

The transfer of Filip Stevanovic to one of the largest European clubs is a significant confirmation of the good and hard work of all club s…

I won’t sit on the fence – Mike Dean ready to criticise referees in new role

Referee-turned-pundit Mike Dean says he will not have any issue in telling former colleague Simon Hooper how badly he got things wrong by not giving Wolves a penalty in their defeat at Manchester United on Monday.

Hooper and VAR officials Michael Salisbury and Richard West have been stood down for this weekend by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) boss Howard Webb after they collectively failed to award Gary O’Neil’s side what looked like a blatant spot-kick in added time of the 1-0 loss at Old Trafford.

Dean quit his role as a dedicated VAR and coach of up and coming officials in the summer in order to move into a role as a pundit on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday.

And the 55-year-old, who made his debut on the show last week, has warned his fo…

Bitesize Prediction: Blackburn vs Hull – 19/08/23

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 8/11 @

In what could prove to be an enjoyable affair from Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon, Blackburn will welcome Hull to Lancashire this weekend.

Starting with the hosts, while Blackburn might have mounted a stellar second-half comeback away at Rotherham last weekend as they eventually snatched a thrilling 2-2 draw, the Rovers would have felt like they missed out on a golden opportunity. Opening the 2023/24 campaign with an eye-catching 2-1 victory at home against West Brom, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men have their sights firmly set on clinching a play-off ticket this time around. Extending on their EFL Cup adventure earlier in the month following an action-packed 4-3 victory against Walsall, Blackburn have certainly gained an ear…

Burnley 1-4 Newcastle United: Clarets’ survival hopes take a hit as Magpies soar at Turf Moor

Burnley’s hopes of a great escape took a huge blow as they were hammered 4-1 by a rampant Newcastle United at Turf Moor.

Having gone unbeaten in three Premier League matches heading into Saturday’s clash, Burnley had hoped to leapfrog Luton Town – who drew with Everton on Friday – into 18th.

Yet their survival hopes are now dangling by a thread after Newcastle turned on the style – Callum Wilson, Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes sending Eddie Howe’s side into a three-goal lead by half-time.

Alexander Isak atoned for a penalty miss by scoring his 20th league goal of the season early in the second half, with Dara O’Shea grabbing a late consolation for Burnley as the Magpies moved above Manchester United into sixth place.

It was not all plain…

Alonso says Leverkusen can still improve as unbeaten run reaches 48 games

Xabi Alonso believes his Bayer Leverkusen side can still improve after they extended their unbeaten run to 48 matches across all competitions on Sunday, equalling Benfica s European record.

Champions Leverkusen thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in the Bundesliga to match Benfica s 48-game unbeaten run between 1963 and 1965 – a record across all competitions in Europe.

Alonso, however, still feels there is more to come.

Our level, our consistency throughout the season is great. But we are always moving forward. We are always concentrating on the work and improving, he said.

Leverkusen, who are edging closer to an unbeaten season across all competitions, have two league matches remaining and are also set to face Kaiserslautern in the DFB-Pokal final on Ma…

Criminal proceedings opened against Sepp Blatter

The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has opened criminal proceedings against FIFA president Sepp Blatter on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and misappropriation.

Blatter is suspected of signing a contract with the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), then led by former FIFA heavyweight Jack Warner, in 2005 that market experts claim handed World Cup television rights for the 2010 event in South Africa and the 2014 showpiece in Brazil to Warner for a fraction of their market value.

He is also accused of making a disloyal payment to UEFA president Michel Platini in 2011 relating to work carried out by Platini between 1999 and 2002 when the Frenchman was a special advisor to Blatter.

OAG interrogated 79-year-old Blatter after a meeting of the F…

Allegri: Juventus do not fear Inter

Juventus have no fear ahead of their Serie A meeting with Inter on Sunday, according to Massimiliano Allegri.

Defending champions Juve have endured a poor start to the campaign, sitting 12th on the table with two wins from their opening seven fixtures.

Roberto Mancini s team are in second position after they were replaced at the summit by Fiorentina last time out.

Inter have not beaten Juve at home in Serie A since 2010 and, despite their poor form, Allegri claimed his players feel no trepidation and are focused on putting in a positive display on Sunday.

We are not afraid of Inter, we respect them but we have no fear, Allegri said on Saturday.

They are a great team full of quality players and we are only focused on the fact that in this kind of…

Chelsea 1 Liverpool 0: Giroud takes Conte´s men to within two points of Spurs

Chelsea took full advantage of Tottenham s shock defeat to West Brom by grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, closing to within two points of the Champions League places.

Antonio Conte s men had appeared almost out of the running for Champions League football until recently, but Olivier Giroud s first-half header secured them a fourth successive top-flight win and they go into the final two games of the season within striking distance of Spurs.

Liverpool actually looked the brighter of the two sides for most of the first half, with Sadio Mane producing three decent efforts before the half-hour mark passed.

But the hosts were simply more clinical, as Giroud headed in one of Chelsea s few opportunities in the 32nd minute, repaying An…

AS Roma keen on Adnan Januzaj

Manchester United flop Adnan Januzaj looks set for what would be a sensational switch to Serie A powerhouse AS Roma.

The 22-year-old originally joined Manchester United as a promising talent in 2013, but the Belgian largely failed to prove his worth at the highest level and was sent out on loan spells with Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland.

Having been deemed surplus to the requirements at Old Trafford, Adnan Januzaj is looking for a new club and, according to reports from Corriere dello Sport, AS Roma have merged as serious contenders for his signature.

Giallorossi newly-appointed sporting director Monchi, a man known for his eye for talent, has personally stepped up interest in signing the Manchester United midfielder.

Monchi believes Januzaj has what i…

Leicester City 1-0 Liverpool: Salah penalty miss costly as Lookman downs Reds

Mohamed Salah s rare penalty miss proved costly as Liverpool were beaten 1-0 by Leicester City in Tuesday s Premier League clash.

The Reds were aiming to close the gap on leaders Manchester City from six points to three, but they fell to a first defeat in 11 games in all competitions at the King Power Stadium.

Former Everton man Ademola Lookman s strike just short of the hour mark, moments after being introduced from the substitutes bench, gave Leicester the lead after Salah had earlier had a first-half spot-kick saved.

Liverpool, who eliminated Leicester from the EFL Cup at the quarter-final stage last week, could not find a response as their run of scoring in a club-record 34 successive matches in all competitions came to an end.

Liverpool s early pen…
