Jurgen Klopp hits out at lunchtime scheduling of Liverpool-Man City clash

Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Brentford set up a mouthwatering top-of-the-table clash against Manchester City, but manager Jurgen Klopp is less than impressed with the lunchtime scheduling.

The Premier League’s resumption after the international break kicks off with City v Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium live on television in a Saturday lunchtime clash.

Klopp has been a long-time opponent of broadcast scheduling, particularly the 12.30pm slot, and he has aired his complaints again.

RB Leipzig continue Carvalho pursuit after initial bid rejected

According to Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig have had an offer of €12 million for the services of Fabio Carvalho turned down by Liverpool, but they re not giving up. A new, improved offer is being prepared.

Having joined Liverpool from Fulham last summer, Carvalho has struggled to adapt to the demands of manager Jurgen Klopp, making just three appearances in all competitions in 2022/23. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder, also capable of attacking from the left flank, has reportedly been told he isn t Klopp s immediate plans for next season, with Alexis Mac Allister apparently close to joining from Brighton and Hove Albion and other midfield targets being lined up.

However, the Merseysiders don t want to lose Carvalho on a permanent deal. A loan could be an option, as c…

Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle United (aet): Smith Rowe sends below-par Gunners into fourth round

Emile Smith Rowe was the hero for Arsenal as they beat Newcastle United 2-0 after extra time to reach the FA Cup fourth round.

The holders were poor for much of normal time, which looked to be coming to an end with Smith Rowe sent off for a foul on Sean Longstaff.

However, the VAR advised referee Chris Kavanagh to revisit that decision, which was overturned, allowing Smith Rowe to make the most of his reprieve by punishing a wasteful Newcastle side with a 109th-minute goal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang s simple strike added a second and, while there is concern for Arsenal over Gabriel Martinelli, who suffered an ankle injury in the warm-up, Mikel Arteta s men will be thankful to have kept their defence alive following a below-par display.

Everton 2-3 Burnley: Clarets claim vital three points in fight for survival

Burnley came from behind to keep their Premier League survival hopes alive on Wednesday, with a piece of Premier League history not enough for fellow strugglers Everton to avoid a 3-2 defeat at Turf Moor.

Maxwell Cornet s 85th-minute winner proved the difference, making this the first defeat for Everton from a winning position at half-time since December 2019.

Following Nathan Collins opening goal, Richarlison s two penalties in the first 45 minutes also made for the first time in Premier League history an away team had scored two penalties in the opening period.

Burnley only took 12 minutes to equalise in the second half, however, after Charlie Taylor skipped past Jonjoe Kenny to provide the assist for Jay Rodriguez.

Cornet was on hand to score the late…

Spurs prepare Depay bid

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Memphis Depay from Olympique Lyon, as claimed by .

Having arrived from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015, Depay had a miserable 18-month spell in England with Manchester United before he was sold to Lyon for £15 million. His career has taken a massive turn for the better in France, he has established himself as a key player for Netherlands too, and he s once again among the more sought-after players in Europe.

Spurs are having a torrid season at the moment. They ve been knocked out of the Carabao Cup and they currently sit in 12th place in the Premier League with only 14 points from 12 games. The only ray of light is coming from the Champions League, where they ve all but secured passage into the knockout stages, though the…

Pepe to be unleashed for first Arsenal start at Liverpool

Arsenal s record signing Nicolas Pepe is set for his first Premier League start after being named in the team to face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Pepe, 24, joined the Gunners from Lille for £72million earlier this month but had been kept in reserve with coach Unai Emery only affording him a couple of substitute appearances in Arsenal s first two games.

But after catching the eye with some clever touches and flashes of excitement against Burnley, he is set to be let loose by Emery as the Premier League s top two tussle at Anfield.

Arsenal fans will have to wait to see Pepe starting alongside both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, however.

The Frenchman is benched despite scoring last time out, leaving Aubameyang to lead the line.

Klopp confused by ticket allocation for Champions League final

Jurgen Klopp has questioned UEFA s allocation of tickets for the Champions League final, where Liverpool will face Real Madrid.

The game at the Stade de France on the outskirts of Paris will be played on May 28, and both participating clubs have been allocated fewer than 20,000 tickets each to sell to fans, despite the capacity of the stadium being 75,000.

Speaking at a media conference ahead of Liverpool s Premier League clash with Tottenham, Klopp was asked about the impact of the travelling Reds support this season, and he was keen to point out the ticket issue.

When you see the ticket prices and all this kind of stuff, the amount of tickets you get only did I read, is it right that we only get 20,000, they get 20,000, [but] 75,000 in? That makes 35,000, what…

Klopp the best there is, no question – Liverpool owners thrilled with contract extension

Jurgen Klopp is the best manager in world football and would be Liverpool s first-choice candidate if searching for a new boss in 2019, the club s owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) said following his contract extension.

Liverpool confirmed on Friday that Klopp has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract to keep him at the club until 2024, as they surge towards an historic first Premier League title.

Klopp joined the Reds in 2015 and quickly began to oversee a steady improvement in their fortunes, reaching two finals in his first year.

Although they fell at the last hurdle on both of those occasions in the EFL Cup and Europa League, two years later Klopp guided Liverpool to a first Champions League final since 2007.

Another final defeat did little to …
